Visegrad Literary Award – Paweł Pieniążek, Wojna w moim domu

Here is what Monika Ochędowska, a member of the Visegrad Literary Award Jury, wrote about the book:

Paweł Pieniążek writes about a war unfolding in three different countries with sensitivity and courage. Thanks to his precise language and deep respect for human experience, he is able both to convey the truth of his protagonists and to reach his readers. He accompanies them, and he accompanies us. He guides us and encourages us to look at ourselves and others with greater tenderness. This book is an exceptionally important voice in the discussion about relationships, responsibility, and hope.

Paweł Pieniążek (b. 1989) is a journalist regularly contributing to Tygodnik Powszechny and a student in the Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia program at Harvard University. He has reported from, among other places, Afghanistan, Nagorno-Karabakh, Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine. He is the author of several books, including Opór. Ukraińcy wobec rosyjskiej inwazji (Resistance: Ukrainians in the Face of the Russian Invasion), which was nominated, among others, for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award and received a distinction as part of the Witold Pilecki International Book Award. He is a laureate of the MediaTory journalism award (2019) and was a Poynter Fellowship in Journalism fellow at Yale University in 2015.
