Forum of Dialogue of Cultures. Screenwriting Residencies 2025: Open Call!

The Villa Decius Association, in cooperation with the Villa Decius Institute of Culture, the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków, and the International Theatre Institute – German Centre, invites screenwriters and playwrights from Poland and Germany to apply for one-month residency at Villa Decius in Kraków, to be held during one of two terms: October or November 2025.

Application deadline: August 11, 2025

This year’s residency edition will host 4 participants: 2 from Poland and 2 from Germany.

Eligible applicants include authors of theatrical and radio plays, as well as film and television scripts, who have at least one produced and published work (e.g., a theater performance, radio play, film, or series) based on their own text.

The scholarship includes:

  • A one-month stay in the historic annex of the Renaissance Villa Decius palace in Kraków (single room with private bathroom)
  • A financial reward of 4,000 PLN gross
  • Organizational support and assistance in establishing professional contacts

Villa Decius hosts creators from around the world through six residency programs, offering excellent opportunities for international exchange and artistic collaboration. We believe the residency atmosphere fosters inspiration and the development of new projects.

As a conclusion to the project, excerpts of texts created during the residency will be presented in the form of a mini-staging marathon at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków on December 20, 2025.

Interested individuals are asked to complete the online application form: Apply!

The application must include:

  • An excerpt from a produced script or play (in Polish, German, or English)
  • Optionally: a motivation letter or a recommendation

Priority will be given to applications from authors planning to work on texts related to Polish-German relations in the broadest sense.

The results will be announced by August 22, 2025.

The project is financed by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation and the International Visegrad Fund.

NOTE: The licenses attached as annexes are an integral part of the documentation and are non-negotiable.

Foreign applicants selected for the program are required to provide tax certification. Failure to submit this document may result in additional deductions from the financial support.
