On Sunday, March 30, at 5:30 PM, we invite you to Willa Decjusza for an interactive performance, MINIMUM DECAY, by Kenyan artist Ondiso Madete. The performance is the result of the artist’s three-month residency at Willa Decjusza as part of the ARTS IN EXILE program.
This 45-minute performance will take place in three different spaces within Willa Decjusza. Each space will be associated with a specific emotion that describes and explores the experience of migration and the process of building connections.
“Forced displacement as an existential source of decay is the central theme of my project, which examines the bonds formed by displaced individuals. I am one of them, and Willa Decjusza, as a space for exploring this experience, has been a place of comfort, safety, and freedom from excessive distractions, while also full of new friendships.” – says Ondiso Madete.
“I want the audience to experience the world through my connection with Kraków, its people, and its spaces. I use songs, guitar loops, singing, dance, poetry, visualizations, and sculptures to create a multisensory and interactive performance. My hope is that participants leave with new tools to connect with the world, nature, other people, and themselves.”
Originally from Kenya, Ondiso Madete is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Finland. At the heart of her artistic exploration lies storytelling. She expresses herself through music, spoken and written word, as well as dance, film, and theater. Her work delves into themes of love, loss, connection, and identity.
“How do I connect with people whose life experiences are so different from mine?
I talk to them, I see them, I dance, sing, and break bread with them.
By sharing my stories and inviting them into my world, most people I meet do the same.
We form connections through our senses and stories, and we grow closer.
I feel less alone and gain the gift of a new perspective.
I see through different eyes, touch with different hands, hear, feel, discover, and perceive a world that is ultimately beautifully and tragically interconnected.” – says Ondiso.
