EU4ALL: strengthening a Pan-European network of social engagement for European seniors

We have the pleasure to present two reports connected to the project EU4All: Experiences and their Utilisation for All.

The two reports present an overview of the project EU4ALL, which aims to promote the democratization of adult education by encouraging active citizenship among older adults. EU4 all focuses on empowering senior citizens and modernizing adult educational paradigms by actively supporting their reintegration into the socio-political and cultural life of the continent.

The first report  “ EU4ALL Partnership Status Quo Report: Comprehensive Organizational Capacity and Resource  provides a comprehensive overview of the organizational capacities, available resources, and development needs of partner organizations working together on the programme.

The report presents partners’ foundations to develop a sustainable, innovative, and inclusive adult education network. This network already has a pan-European approach that can redefine the standards of active aging, accessibility, and lifelong learning.

The importance of this project is given by the growing desire of seniors to actively contribute to society. In fact, more and more seniors are willing to continue learning and be socially engaged. This pan-Europeana model will formalize the European senior demographic as indispensable for future social cohesion, demographic resilience and community development.

Second report entitled EU4All Partnership Status Quo Report: Part 2 – Comprehensive Cross-National Survey Analysis of Senior Activity and Social Cohesion is a research based compilation of the needs and interests of the direct stakeholders (seniors from each partners’ beneficiary groups). It provides interesting insight into different local approaches in each country.

For example, German seniors from Seniorenbüro Hamburg and Treffpunkt Steilshoop show a profound interest in community restructuring themes and democratic engagement. On the other hand, the cohort from Villa Decius in Poland is strongly engaged in fine arts, humanities, and classical education. While the Italian seniors from Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo(PLIS) show a strong desire for intergenerational integration and active citizenship through community support. The Romanian cohort from “OMENIA” prioritizes fundamental community integration, practical skill acquisition, and basic physical health preservation.

Generally, the majority of the respondents are united by the willingness and motivation to meet new people, escape domestic isolation and form a sense of  community and belonging. In fact this eagerness of socialization proves that the aging demographic is not suffering from a deficit of capacity, but rather from a deficit of formalized social platforms through which they can channel their expertise.

The core objective of EU4ALL is the preservation of the social fabric, mental well-being and public health of our seniors.

The partners of this project are from across 4 European countries: Germany, Romania, Italy, and Poland. Namely, Seniorenbüro Hamburg e.V. and Treffpunkt Steilshoop in Germany, OMENIA in Romania, Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo (PLIS) in Italy, and Villa Decius Association in Poland.
