The Prize of Sérgio Vieira de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2002-2003) was established in 2003 by the Villa Decius Association with an aim to promote human rights, democracy, and tolerance and had its first edition already in 2004.

By the decision of the Award Committee, the Polish Sérgio Vieira de Mello Prize in 2022 is awarded to: in the category Person: Serhiy Zhadan (Ukraine), in the category Non-Governmental Organisation: The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (Ireland), Honorary Prize: Sister Michaela Rak (Poland). The 21st VSS began a series of editions dedicated to forecasting and designing the future. The main elements of this year’s School were topic of the human rights and workshops on future literacy and lectures on human rights, during which participants learned methods of thinking about the future, saw to what extent their ideas about the future influence their decisions, and deconstructed conscious and unconscious assumptions that influence thinking about the future of human rights. The activities were accompanied by study visits combined with learning about the cultural and historical assets of Malopolska, as well as the traditional intercultural integration.
The video presents a 3-minute summary of the last twenty editions of the Visegrad Summer School, a unique educational and cultural program aimed at students, graduates, young scholars and professionals from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, as well as other Central and Eastern European countries.
The conference was part of the project titled: “Intersectoral challenges: specialist in the protection of cultural assets in case of crisis and war – development of a program of postgraduate studies, dedicated to employees working at the border of fields”, implemented in 2020-2022, as a subject of cooperation between the Villa Decius Association in Krakow, the Naval Academy in Gdynia and the Villa Decius Cultural Institute in Krakow, within the framework of the Education Program, with funds from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021 and the Polish State budget.
